It is indeed, an incredible fact that what the human mind, at its deepest and most profound, perceives as beautiful finds its realization in external nature. What is intelligible is also beautiful". Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar The objective is to explore in this conference the different modalities through which beauty is implicated in the very activities of discovery and creation. Must we accept the idea of an artificial beauty or must we rather research intrinsic criteria permitting us to clarify what beauty is and to reveal the extent of its influence in the different fields of knowledge? Relegated until now to the role of a simple symbolic-ornamental notion or even totally ignored by scientific discourse, beauty is nonetheless inherent in the process of constituting natural objects and phenomena. The goal of this conference is to approach a series of themes which are at the heart of a thought which is still vibrant and fruitful, and which has made of beauty an essential reference for its own reflection. This meeting wishes to make us reflect upon certain fundamental problematics in philosophy, art and science; this reflection will be centered around the theme of beauty, which will be the common link for these three domains of knowledge. It will be a matter, then, of facilitating a discussion and a coming together around certain deeply related thematic axes. We wish, moreover, that such an encounter take place in a context which is friendly and free of all academicism.
